Washout

Normally dry and arid, there are times in Arizona and the Desert SW when it does indeed rain. Case in point: We had over two inches or rain in one day (January 21st, 2010). There are several washes (a dry riverbed, basically), around the area that collect and runoff the water. Usually you can walk or drive through these washes as you would going down a gravel road. Not this particular day. As you can see in the pictures, where the day before people were riding quads, jeeps, etc.. through or over these washes, now became rivers and creeks. (Hence the warnings about flashfloods, don't enter the wash if raining, don't drive through standing water. All necessary precautions to those used to rain, not so to those living where it is dry).
